LTWA BULLETIN2From Dave Luddy, Events Secretary, LTWA
1. LTWA Special ‘On the record’ Lunches
This Spring’s Special Lunch has been replaced by an informal drinks/nibbles at the LTA’s headquarters at the National Tennis Centre (100 Priory Lane, London SW15 5JQ) on Friday May 4 at 2pm. The change follows our guest, the new LTA chief executive Scott Lloyd, inviting some key tennis correspondents for a short briefing in the middle of this month on his first 100 days in office. However on May 4 Scott will do a briefing and then Simon Timson, Head of Performance, will take us through the LTA’s Performance Strategy. Both Scott and Simon will be happy to discuss with writers and broadcasters after their briefings. If anyone would like to attend, apart from those directly invited by the LTA, then please contact me firstname.lastname@example.org by the middle of next week with
a deadline of Wednesday April 11. First come - first served. Incidentally as most of you know Scott started his role in January. He is the son of David Lloyd, the former British Davis Cup player, and winner of the LTWA annual award in 1999.
There will be a Special Lunch in the autumn.
2. LTWA Meetings and the AELTC (next meeting Monday April 30 2018)
There are four LTWA meetings a year. If anyone wishes to raise any constructive points for your committee to consider and also for our meetings with the All England Lawn Tennis Club – then please contact me via email. Our next LTWA meeting is on Monday April 30 2018 at the AELTC. This will be followed by our annual meeting with the Media Sub Committee of the AELTC on the same day – and 24 hours before the AELTC Spring Conference.
3. LTWA Annual Lunch (for your diary)
This year’s lunch will take place on Thursday November 29 at the AELTC – our traditional venue – following a year’s absence due to construction. The LTWA’s 67th annual award will be decided in the autumn. Jo Konta won the 2017 award along with a special award to coach Alan Jones for his 50 years of service to tennis. Over £4000 (final figure) was raised for the Charity – Give It Your Max. This UK charity provides qualified tennis coaches for 5-10 year olds in the State sector.
4. Membership Subscription and Handbook
Membership subscription is now due. A £30 fee for Full Members must be settled by June 1. Associate Members is £10. Don’t leave it to the last minute. Payment is hugely preferable by Online banking. See page 3 of your Members Handbook for details. Online payments MUST also include sending an email email@example.com to the Honorary Secretary Henry Wancke to confirm your payment and if using a company account, the name of the account for administration purposes.
Could you also send to Henry any changes that you may wish to make for the next Member’s handbook. If you want your picture changed or if there isn’t one in the handbook then send a JPEG via email to Henry. Subs payment can also be made by cheque - dated 1.6.18 - payable to the
LTWA. Send to Henry Wancke at his address in Members Handbook.
5. LTWA Articles request
We would be delighted to receive articles – 600-800 words – for our website run by
Barry Millns. They can be stories already published or new stories and have a
life of at least a month or longer.
6. LTWA Development
We would like to hear from you re: the future development of the Association.
There are four bulletins a year. The next will be July (No.3) followed by October (No.4) and December (No.5), March 2019 (No.6)
I look forward to seeing you at the NTC on May 4 or during the British grass court season including Wimbledon. Hopefully Andy Murray by then will be playing competitive tennis. I can be contacted anytime by email and as usual I’ll be in my commentary Box 13 on the Centre Court – if anyone wants to find me.
Have a good Spring,
Events Secretary, LTWA
